a.k.a. "Mimi"
(Monarch V by Huckleberry Bey++ x Colleen V by Traditio)
Although her Western Pleasure career is still in a
rather formative stage, Mimi has already achieved a Scottsdale Western Pleasure Junior Horse title.
She is equally a full sibling to Grand Applause+++/, who has countless National and Regional titles in Western Pleasure as well as Halter.
Mimi and I are planning on "going all the way" in Western Pleasure AOTR together, starting next year. Can't go wrong with a horse like that!
I am a great admirer of Sheila Varian, who is -in my opinion- the creator of the most beautiful and functional horses in our breed today. That being said, I've fantasized of having a "Varian horse" of my own in the barn for a very long time. Mimi's beauty, ability, mysterious color and abundant jet-black hair just oozes "Varian type".
She is my long-time goal... accomplished...!
Her Sire MONARCH V
A producer of National winners as well as a typical statement of Varian breeding, he is a son of the great Huckleberry Bey++ and aristocratic Khemosabi++++// daughter, Moska. Playing a sinificant part in Sheila Varian's breeding program, Moska is Dam to 16 magnificent horses, and is considered as being one of the most influential producers of western Pleasure Arabians to date. In his own right, Huckleberry Bey++ needs no introduction, being a National Champion and a "Sire Of Significance" to the Arabian breed with too many achievements to mention. Among other champion offspring, his son Afire Bey V is the #1 Leading Sire of Halter and Performance horses for the 7th consecutive year at the US and Canadian National Championships.

Her dam COLLEEN V
Producer of multiple National winners herself, Colleen V is by Traditio, the prominent top siring son of "the horse most likely to fly" : Gdansk+. Colleen V's Dam is out of the Kingly Bay-Abi++ daughter, Carrie Bay.
I "found" Mimi when she was 2 years old, completely un-educated, but she instinctively struck my wildest imagination. So far, my judgement seems to be right on target! After all, with a legendary pedigree like hers, she was destined for greatness from the beginning! I am so very proud of her...

(Alada Baskin by *Aladdinn x Basks Maria by *Bask)
My "can-do-it-all" horse, and the most talented one of all, Songis has
been with me for 11 years now. She was bred by Colonial Wood Arabians, and shown to a Reserve Regional Champion filly as a yearling. Unfortunately -being an extremely sensitive horse- the pressure she experienced as a halter-baby still affects her to this day. Although she has the capabilities to achieve National wins in Halter as well as Western- and Hunter Pleasure, she gets nervous as soon as she enters the ring. This disadvantage put aside, Songis and I have travelled to numerous horse shows together throughout the years, concluding in multiple wins and championships in all three categories (in the Open as well as ATR divisions).
Songis features extreme Arabian type, with a "swan-like" neck and a throatlatch so small I can wrap my fingers around it (no matter how fat she gets!). She is an exceedingly showy mare, always prancing around with her head held high an her tail flagged. When you look at her, you'll undoubtedly see her "strike a pose" -the joke around the farm being that Songis thinks the judges are continuously watching!!
All that aside, Songis is my precious, gentle soul. I am thankful for her, and everything she has taught me along our journey together...
Her Sire ALADA BASKIN
Twice U.S. Narional Champion Stallion Alada Baskin is not only the super sire of the 90s, but he has carried it over into the 21st century with no less than 1400 get and grand-get. With the blood of National Champions *Aladdinn and *Bask coursing through his veins, it’s no wonder that an impressive number of his get are national winners in nearly every discipline.
Alada Baskin mares are highly coveted as broodmares. Long, shapely necks and huge eyes is what "Lad" produces, along with straight, correct legs and trainability.
This comes as no surprise, as *Aladdinn himself is known for siring horses of the finest disposition and overall conformation the breed has ever known. He also was the first foreign National Champion to claim the US title and then rapidly became the first US National Champion to sire a US National Champion. To date, *Aladdinn has sired 275 Champions and 69 National winners!
Her Dam BASKS MARIA

"Smokes" & I, up.
a.k.a. "Smokes"
(Baskin-Robbins by Mon Ta Basko x UF Supreme Surprice -saddlebred)
This is my "powerhouse-girl" : quiet as can be on the ground, until your butt hits that saddle! It's as if somebody just turnes on "the" switch. I met Smokes quite unexpectedly at a horse show, when her previous owner asked me to try her out. That ride was an adrenalin rush to say the least, and the sheer power I felt overwhelmed me. Needless to say, Smokes ended up on MY trailer driving home that day!
Come to find out, Smokes had quite a reputation within the Region 12 show cicuit. She seemed to have been an extremely difficult horse to break, making her share of countless trainers eat dirt! I believe Vicky Humpfrey was the one who finally succeeded in that task. Later on, Smokes became John Rannenberg's long-time show horse and friend.
Smokes has been shown predominently at Park and English Pleasure, but has achieved wins at Mounted Native Costume and Halter as well. Among her many acclompishments: Twice Regional Champion Park Horse and a Reserve Champion, several times Regional Top 5 Park & English Pleasure Horse, Buckeye Champion- as well as Florida State Championship titles, not to mention a whole list of Class A wins.
I retired Smokes and she presently enjoys a good life. She will never change homes again. She is loved, healthy, and lives amidst other horses. Finally, she is allowed to do horse things : stand under a tree, have her tail as a fly swatter, be barefoot, not have the insides of her ears clipped, and eat a lot of grass! She is so deserving of a happy ending...
